State Association of Independent Theatres in Saxony

With its production funding, the Fonds Darstellende Künste enables long-standing professional independent artists and groups to find and develop new aesthetics and expressive forms of expression for artistic exploration of social developments, to realise production projects and to present these productions to the public for the first time.

The concept development grant supports independent groups, ensembles and artistic collaborations that have been working successfully for many years at national and international level in the further development of conceptual strategies over longer periods of time and outside of regular production processes. With its three-year funding programme, the Fonds Darstellende Künste enables these outstanding groups not only to realise several new productions, but also to acquire additional co-producers, additional sources of funding and new audiences.

As part of its project funding, the Cultural Foundation supports nationally significant art and cultural projects in the Free State of Saxony that are characterised by outstanding quality and a clear content profile. Twice a year, applications can be submitted for projects in the fields of visual arts, performing arts, music, film, literature, socio-culture, industrial culture and interdisciplinary projects.

HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts will host the 2026 Tanzplattform Deutschland, which presents current developments and innovative trends in contemporary dance every two years. An independent jury has selected the productions for the programme, which will be shown in mid-March 2026 at HELLERAU and other institutions in Dresden. The selected productions will be announced on 5 November 2025 and advance ticket sales will start on 1 December 2025.

From 21 to 26 April 2026, the 13th edition of the Sächsisches Theatertreffen (Saxon Theatre Meeting, STT 26) will take place in Görlitz and Zittau. Organised by the Gerhart Hauptmann Theatre Görlitz-Zittau, the festival will showcase the Saxon theatre scene: it brings together current positions, highlights artistic styles and shows how theatre in Saxony is currently influencing aesthetics, politics and society – for a broad audience as well as for experts. In addition to the invited productions from municipal and state theatres, a guest performance from the independent performing arts scene in Saxony will also be presented.
