Open Call: Stadt. Land. Bühne.

In 2026, the Landesverband der Freien Theater in Sachsen e.V. (State Association of Independent Theaters in Saxony) will realize a mobile mini-festival of independent performing arts in Saxony: Stadt. Land. Bühne. will bring current works from the Saxon independent scene to the city centers of smaller and larger towns. Drama, dance, and performance will enter into direct dialogue with the urban space and the local people.

Between April and October 2026, the project will tour Görlitz, Zittau, and Chemnitz, creating synergies between established festivals and the independent performing arts scene in Saxony.

For the first tour stops in Görlitz and Zittau, which are part of the 13th Saxon Theater Meeting, we are looking for up to ten artistic contributions from the Saxon independent performing arts scene.

The selected works will be presented on a mobile stage in public spaces.

Dates: April 23, 2026 – Görlitz / April 24, 2026 – Zittau

We are looking for smaller, technically reduced artistic formats from the independent performing arts that are suitable for performances in public spaces, such as short performance, dance, or theater productions, excerpts from artistic productions, work-in-progress formats, participatory formats, urban space-related works, or pitches.

Length per presentation: approx. 20-45 minutes (can be presented multiple times on the day of the event)

Individual artists, duos, or small groups from the independent performing arts scene who are based in Saxony/have their center of activity in Saxony are eligible to apply. Membership in the LFTS is not required.

The application documents should contain the following information:

• A brief description of the artistic contribution (max. 1,000 characters including spaces)
• A brief description of artistic activities over the last three years (max. 1,000 characters including spaces)
• A description of the interest in participating in the program (max. 1,000 characters including spaces)
• Link to a video or photo documentation of the artistic contribution, if available (no downloads, but a link to a video platform is preferred)
• A technical rider
• Information on availability (both dates or specific application for Görlitz or Zittau)

Application documents can be submitted until March 12, 2026, exclusively by email as a single PDF file to projektkoordination@freie-theater-sachsen.de (subject line: Application: Freie Szene unterwegs - Görlitz/Zittau).

The artistic contributions will be selected by local actors/initiatives and the Landesverband der Freien Theater in Sachsen e.V. (State Association of Independent Theaters in Saxony).

The selected contributions will be announced by the end of March at the latest.
